40. Ochia
Of the 11 snake species on the Peloponnese, 4 are venomous: 2 are mildly venomous and thus not dangerous (the Saita and the cat snake), the Mavrofido (the black snake) is venomous, and the Ochia (the horned viper) is VERY venomous.
Sometimes it seems that the Ochia is the most common here in the Mani, but in any case, it is clearly recognizable by its zigzag pattern and cat-like eyes. Usually light gray with dark zigzag and rarely longer than about 70 cm. And with a distinct upright horn on its nose. Although it is understandable that many people kill it, the Ochia is a protected species!
