57. Limeni

The fishing village of Limeni is located on the south side of Oytilo Bay. Here is located the "palace" of Petrobey Mavromichalis. Appointed by the Turkish sultan as deputy and local leader, he and three other maniatic leaders rebelled against Turkish authority and declared a revolution in 1821, the beginning of Greek liberation and the founding of the modern Greek state.
