The peninsula of "Peloponnese" has three promontories on its southern side, resembling fingers on a hand. The middle one of these "fingers" is called Mani and consists of a northern part, the "Exo Mani," located in the province of Messinia, and a southern part, the "Mesa Mani," with Areopoli as its capital, situated in the province of Laconia. Kalyves is located in Mesa Mani, approximately 40 km from Kalamata, at the foot of Mount Taygetos.
Below are mainly images of the "Mani," the central promontory of the Peloponnese, in the form of thumbnails, which can be clicked to enlarge.
All the thumbnails below have a number that you will also find on the enlarged image. Clicking on the map of Mani to the left will give you the map in full size. The numbers on the map refer to the numbers on the thumbnails and their enlargements.
Finally, one more remark. The Mani is an extraordinarily fascinating corner of Greece, and for anyone interested, it’s good to know that there is a wealth of information available on the great site of John Chapman, 'Mani: A Guide and History'. Therefore, you will also find a link to his site here.
