18. Mystras
West of Sparti, at the foot of the Taÿgetos, lies Mystras, where the old Byzantine administrative structure was established after the conquest. After the capture of Constantinople, the Turks also ruled here from 1460 and in a revenge attack in 1770, Mystras was largely destroyed. The remains were destroyed in 1825, since then Mystras has been a ghost town, but restoration work has been underway since the end of the last century. In the photo you see the Despot's Palace.
