We quickly discovered that the name of this village can easily lead to misunderstandings shortly after we settled here.
My partner had ordered something online, and one morning the phone rang and someone introduced themselves on behalf of a shipping company in Kalamata. He said he wanted to deliver a package but he wasn't very familiar with Kalamata outside of the city. So, my partner told him to simply drive to the village square of Kályves and give us a call, then one of us would come to meet him. That day we didn't hear anything more. Days later, the phone rang again and the same man enthusiastically announced that he had arrived at the village square and told my partner to come straight to him. After a quarter of an hour, she returned home with the announcement that there was absolutely no one there. Shortly after, the phone rang again and the delivery man asked where we were, my partner asked him where he was because she hadn't seen anyone... Well, he's actually on the village square of Kalýves! It turns out he's on the village square of Kalýves on the island of Crete.
