This chapter is therefore about Kályves. It has two sections, as you can see here on the left. The first section is about exactly where Kályves is located, and the second gives a somewhat clearer picture of the surroundings.
That the name of this hamlet easily gives rise to misunderstandings, we discovered not long after we had settled here.
My partner had ordered something on the Internet, and one morning the phone rings and someone introduces himself on behalf of a delivery company in Kalamata. He says he wants to deliver a parcel but that he is not very familiar with the area outside Kalamata. So my partner tells him to simply drive to the village square of Kályves and call us there, and one of us will come to him to receive it. That day we heard absolutely nothing more…
Days later the phone rings again and the same man announces himself, enthusiastically saying that he has arrived at the village square, and my partner tells him she will come to him right away. After a quarter of an hour she returns home with the message that there was absolutely no one there! When the phone rings shortly after, it is the delivery man asking where we are! My partner then asks where he is standing, since she hadn't seen anyone… Well, he is really standing in the village square of Kalýves!!
It turns out he was standing in the village square of Kalýves on the island of Crete!!
